In 1985 Lamborghini began development of 'Project 123' as a replacement for the Countach with the brief of achieving at least 315km/h. Following a first design by Marcello Gandini Chrysler commissioned a second design by its design team in Detroit in order to smooth out the sharp edges and corners of Gandini's original design (which would see the light of day as the Cizeta-Moroder V16T.)

The car continued Lamborghini's tradition of naming their cars after infamous fighting bulls; Diablo was a bull bred by the Duke of Veragua in the 19th Century and was famous for an epic battle with 'El Chicorro' in Madrid in 1896.

The car was debuted to the public on January 21st 1990 with a 5.7L, 48-Valve V12 with dual overhead cams and ECU controlled multi-point fuel injection. The engine produced 485 hp and 428 lb/ft of torque. With a 0-62 of 4.5s and a top speed of 325 km/h the final product far exceeded the original design brief. The car was rear-wheel drive and featured a mid-mounted engine to aid it's weight distribution.

The Diablo came better equipped than the Countach with standard features including fully adjustable seats & steering wheel, electric windows and alpine sound system; power steering and ABS became available on later cars.

The example we're offering left the factory in 1993 and comes finished in Black/Black. The car has recently benefitted from a complete mechanical overhaul and major service; having covered just over 6,000 miles from new it's rare to find such a well preserved and maintained example anywhere on the market today.
