The 1960s saw Ford, GM and Chrysler battle in the US motorsport arena in series such as NASCAR, drag racing and road-racing. Competitive cars were created when manufacters would put large capacity engines into thier two-door models, however this was limited to 427 ci to meet FIA and NASCAR regulations.

To complement this immense powers, the manufacters also set about shedding weight from their 'regular' production cars, as can be seen in one of the most important race cars of this era the R-Code Galaxie 500. This is believed to be the only 'full-sized' Ford to obtain FIA homologation.

The lightweight Galaxies would not only compete in the USA, but also in the UK, Australia and South Africa; competitive in both NASCAR and Drag Racing competition around the world. In fact, it is their racing applications in period that mean Galaxies are eligible for many forms of historic motorsport today.

The 425 bhp motor is mated to a Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed transmission complemented by other performance parts including stiffer spirngs and shocks as well as lightweight bucket seats.

Finished in Corinthian White, the vehicle benefited from a recent restoration and sits with just four previous owners. The interior is finished in striking Red leather and is in 'lightweight' specification with heater and stereo being deleted to save weight. The overall condition is the vehicle is magnificent in absolutely all departments; this is one of the finest Galaxies in the world.

This rare factory-built Galaxie Lightweight is a very important part of Ford's competition history; signified by the fantastic performance that would suit the finest of collections.
