Born in 1926, Giotto Bizzarrini graduated from the University of Pisa in 1953 with a degree in Engineering. Following a brief period teaching he joined Alfa Romeo in 1954 before moving to Ferrari in 1957. To say he had an illustrious career would be an understatement of mammoth proportions; going on to become the controller of the experimental, sports and GT car programmes for Ferrari Giotto oversaw the development of a number of some of the most desirable cars ever built; The 250 SWB, the 250 TR and the mythical 250 GTO.

His time at Ferrari came to an end following one of the most tumultuous periods in Ferrari's history when, in 1961, long time Sales Manager Girolamo Gardini, Manager Romolo Tavoni, Chief Engineer Carlo Chiti and Giotto Bizzarrini made an ultimatum to Enzo Ferrari. They stated that they would all leave the company unless Enzo's wife, Laura, was removed from having any active role in the company. As a result, Enzo called a meeting and let all those involved in the ultimatum go. Many thought this would be the end of Ferrari as the GTO was still mid-way through its development, thankfully Mauro Foghieri and Sergio Scaglietti honed the GTO and created the car that all we all revere today.

In the wake of this upset all defectors went on to form the company ATS with an aim to build Formula 1 single seaters and the GT sports car, the ATS Serenissima. One of ATS' financial backers, Count Giovanni Volpi hired Giotto Bizzarrini to upgrade a 250 SWB to GTO specification, which ultimately resulted in the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Drogo, more commonly known as the Breadvan.

Following this Bizzarrini started work for Iso Rivolta and developed their Iso Rivolta GT, and A3l & A3C versions of the Iso Grifo. During his tenure at Iso Rivolta Bizzarrini became enamoured of Corvette's powerful V8 engines, which would go on to power many of his eponymous cars.

In 1964 Bizzarrini left Iso Rivolta to form Bizzarrini S.p. A which produced some 140 cars from 1964 to 1969 at its factory in Livorno.

First debuted in 1966 Bizzarrini released a street legal incarnation of the Grifo A3C, while much of the body shape and mechanical parts were the same as the Iso Giotto had refined and perfected the overall design resulting in the surgical yet sensuous coupe that was a mere 43 inches tall. Powered by a small Chevrolet small-block 327 Corvette engine displacing 5358cc and producing between 365 and 380 hp, the car also featured Dunlop four-wheel disc brakes, a BogWarner T-10 four-speed manual transmission, de Dion Tube rear suspension and a limited slip differential the car was mechanically far ahead of its time. The package was wrapped in a Bertone styled aluminium bodywork, which still today has more road presence than just about anything else out there.

Our car was manufactured in 1968 and was originally Italian delivered before making its way to California where it spent the majority of its life. The car has recently benefitted from a nut and bolt restoration, leaving it in better than pristine condition; finished in a striking White over Blue colour combination. The car is sold with the original User Manual, pictures from its time in its original Red exterior paint colour and an extensive folder of photographs detailing every stage of the aforementioned restoration.

With so few of these cars still in existence, no amount of prose can truly do its impact in the flesh justice. It absolutely needs to be seen to be truly understood!
